The Cardano roadmap explains about the network:
"Cardano is a groundbreaking proof-of-stake blockchain network, being developed into a decentralized application (dApp) development platform with a multi-asset ledger and verifiable smart contracts."
It is also worth mentioning that they want to improve the network's scalability, interoperability and sustainability, which is very important to power real-world applications. In the future, Cardano wants to become the blockchain network for large-scale apps.
With Shelley, one of the most important updates to Cardano, the network is expected to attract new investors and users. The new roadmap has also provided information about other important improvements such as Goguen, Basho, and Voltaire, which are all integral parts of the whole Cardano project for the future.
