Vitalik Buterin shares major developments in Ethereum Foundation over past 15 months
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin was recently asked about the "biggest changes" that have taken place in Ethereum Foundation over the past 15 months. This came up after Buterin tweeted stating that Ethereum has undergone a massive change over the past 15 months.
In response to the query, Buterin put forward four points explaining the developments. He wrote:
"1. Casper/sharding spec roughly finished, now in refinement stages.
2. 4+ implementations of the spec well underway.
3. Many implementations of plasma well underway.
4. ZK-SNARK-based layer 2 scaling and privacy well underway. It's a night-and-day difference from 2017."
The community appears to be happy as one of the followers even commented stating, "Insanely exciting time to be here." In fact, in the recent few months, since Vitalik announced the "Ethereum 2.0 vision", several development teams such as Sigma Prime, Prysmatic Labs, Rocket Pool, Status and PegaSys have been working on developing Casper and sharding clients. Also, Prysmatic Labs announced a few days earlier the release of the demo version of Sharding Client, Prysm v0.0.0.
On the other hand, the Ethereum community is eagerly waiting for the Constantinople hard upgrade which has been delayed slightly. Ethereum developers have announced that there will be a delay in the launch of the upcoming Constantinople hardfork, a system-wide upgrade scheduled on the test network Ropsten. Since there is a vulnerability in one out of five Constantinople upgrades, there is a delay. The announcement was made by team lead Peter Szilagyi on behalf of the entire developers' team of the Ethereum Foundation.
In the recent debate on Twitter, Vitalik was also asked, "Any thoughts on how you will eventually detach yourself from the project?" He responded, "Already in progress". He added stating, "...watch the repos, even much of the research is being done by (Danny Ryan), (Justin Drake), (Hsiao-Wei Wang) and others," he confirmed.
Vitalik Buterin also assured that his detachment wouldn't affect the network. He stated, "I think ethereum can absolutely survive me spontaneously combusting tomorrow at this point."
